The Disc Jockey - The Life Of The Party

A Disc Jockey is also known as a Deejay (DJ) and are individuals who play selected music to audiences such as clubbers-or even those tuning into a radio show. A disc jockey loves to get the crowd going, and often hollers words to the song out loud, or makes shout-outs to members of the audience. A disc jockey can play several types of music, whether it is techno, house, rap, r&b, hip-hop, or other genres. A hip-hop disc jockey usually is backed up by an MC-who helps to hype up the crowd. Various ways of playing music are available.

A disc jockey may use Internet mp3 files, CDs, vinyl records, or other pre-recorded music of some type. ‘DJs’ is the short form term used in reference to disc jockeys. A good disc jockey has the ability to mix and blend selected music, just at the right time-so that it has a steady overall flow. A radio Disc Jockey usually hosts an on-air radio show, for listeners to tune into. A radio disc jockey usually has a good on air personality, and gains recognizance for that. A radio disc jockey will use computerized programs to mix music, sometimes allowing commercials in between-however; they do not choose the selection that is played.

A “bedroom” disc jockey, often chooses, and plays selected music in the privacy of their own home for friends and others. Club disc jockey’s choose and play their own music for club-goers. A club disc jockey offers a smooth transition between the tracks played (meaning no breaks) to their crowd-whether club size, or even stadium size. Reggae disc jockey’s rap over certain “riddims”, which are various beats or instrumentals.

Some equipment that a disc jockey may use while hosting a party, would be DJ mixers, microphones, headphones, turntables, just to name a few.
